THE BASICS
What “cloud hosting” actually means.
Hosting is renting a computer that is always on and always connected, so your site answers whenever someone visits. “Cloud hosting” usually means three things on top of that: the server is virtualised on bigger hardware, it sits behind a content delivery network, and it can be given more resources without you buying anything.
There are three common ways to get it:
- Shared hosting — many sites on one server with a control panel. Cheap, but one busy neighbour can slow you down and you can't run much beyond PHP.

- Managed hosting — a provider runs the server for you and you deploy your site. This is what NevaraCloud does.

CHOOSING A HOST
What to check before you pay anyone.
Performance
Ask what storage the servers use (NVMe SSDs are much faster than spinning disks or older SSDs), whether a CDN is included, and how much CPU a site actually gets. Then measure: run your current site through PageSpeed Insights before and after a move.
Security
Free SSL should be automatic. Look for DDoS protection, a firewall, and — for WordPress — malware scanning. Most importantly, find out how often backups run, how long they are kept and how you get one restored.
Price
Compare the renewal price, not just the first month, and check whether backups, email, SSL and migration are included or extra. Paying in LKR avoids needing a dollar card. Our hosting cost guide lists the questions to ask.
Support
When your site is down, a ticket queue in another time zone is slow. Check the support hours, the channel (WhatsApp, phone, email) and how fast replies actually come.

Common questions.
Is NevaraCloud a Sri Lankan company?
Yes. NevaraCloud is based in Colombo, bills in Sri Lankan rupees and supports customers over WhatsApp and email, Monday to Sunday, 9am to 10pm.
Are your servers in Sri Lanka?
Your site is served through Cloudflare's network of 300+ edge locations, so visitors in Sri Lanka and abroad load cached content from a location near them. We don't publish the location of the origin servers.
What's the difference between this and a VPS?
With managed hosting we run the server: updates, security, backups and monitoring. With a VPS you get root access and do all of that yourself. NevaraCloud sells managed hosting, not self-managed VPS.
Can I host something that isn't a website?
If it runs in Docker, usually yes — see Docker hosting. For GPU model training we run a separate service at compute.nevaracloud.com.
